Ethics and principles have vital meanings when every thing around are embroiled in assuage conspiracy. At the time of war, ethics are not conspicuous in the thoughts of warrior. These are kept aside with a balk.
I agreed to take the goat's milk . While turning over pages in the pace, which was catapulted by the interest,a sudden annoyance was an aftermath of these simple non drivel lines. These lines to some extent can be considered as drivel, as the book contained several thought provoking notions.
It is a simple story of a person who takes a vow to not to drink milk and not to eat meat .When he was on death bed, his doctor advises him to ascend further his diet by milk. he agrees.
At past when his wife was hospitalized , he had discharged her from a hospital at that dangerous rendezvous of life and death!
When doctor persuaded her to take tea comprising meat as an essential ingredient, the guy didn't give it an abrogation. The advice was cross-questioning his ethics of truth. the wife was in affirmative with his belove husband.Doctor gave him choice.,either follow his advice or take are off the hospital .
The guy treated her with his own practical methods and luckily she subverted the death.
Now, when he was in the battlefield on bed, he forgets his ethics of truth. He was a social worker and he had several plans for benefits of the people. Not to mention, the social work was his self interest and his plans and ideas were like pump for his self-life. He got interested in living and accepted to drink the milk, "the goat's milk".
His principle of ahimsa was based on truth, which he violates here , as he accepts in his autobiography(no too transparently). The motive was to initiate satyagraha in India, and his life was the first indispensable stuff he needed for that.
Ah! yes the ethics were not violated in case of his wife ,as his wife was not meant for these public services! She was like a local populace! So she had no rights to violate ethics. kool!
The autobiography from that page failed to interest me anymore. Recovering from the annoyance, pages 379-420 were read like a life without soul.

well, the passage has left me thinking that our "father of nation" has taken such step.I read he recognized the supressed power in women during satyagrha, the passage seems to be ironical to that.anyways,he accepts the fact in his autobiography n may b that's the reason he is entitled "Mahatma".But wat is proved is that men were...are...will always be the same ......"make principles but never follow it!"
it was a nice & unique information about mahatma gandhi,i m still confused whether his decision was right or wrong ,anyway keep writing &

hello nitin, although i like u as a person and in gr8 awe of u as a blogger, but ur views on gandhiji,my role model, have irated me to the hilt.i have read his autobiography righ from cover to cover and i think juz u r making a mountain out of a molehill of the incident involving the gr mahatma taking to goat's milk at death's bed.for ur kind information let me remind u that throughout his life gandhiji abided by his principles and even at gr8 distress,he was adamant that he wud not touch milk or meat.however in his vow he had mentioned cow's milk which was reminded to him by his wife,so in reality he didn't budge from his vow.however this incident still rankled in gandhiji's heart for long and he relented although not from his heart for the cause of the nation.and regarding forcing his principles on his wife and children,he always took them into confidence and never imposed himself.whatever u say but thr will never be such an enlightened soul on earth again and his principles and values are as relevant as they were in those days!

hi ravi.Reading is a good habit;).I forced you to read some blogs. You asked my URL and wrote comments.Ah..writing is a good habit too;) So, the nitty-gritty is I have done a good job and according to your wish, again there will be a next time;)
Dear mak,
however in his vow he had mentioned cow's milk which was reminded to him by his wife,so in reality he didn't budge from his vow.
As you said, actually he was coaxed by his wife for this.He accept it in his autobiography that for the first time he is violating his principles for the people of the nation.
and regarding forcing his principles on his wife and children,he always took them into confidence and never imposed himself
This actually shows the quality of the lady, who giving the due respect to his beloved husband and his decision gave her life in his hand. And living the well facilitated hospital.
She followed her principle of life to have faith and got ready to give her life too.Nevertheless, this is not same with Mahatma Gandhi..
As far the autobiography is concerned , no doubt it was a turning point of my life too. Even i owe such a Mahatma, but dislike few things too..
